The Warrior Cats Clans explained
The five living warrior Clans are ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, ShadowClan and SkyClan. The original forest story opens with four; SkyClan's history and return unfold later. StarClan is an afterlife, not another living territorial Clan.

Evidence and limits
Clan identity is more stable than a roster of leaders or medicine cats. This guide describes broad traditions and environments rather than presenting mixed-era profile cards as the current allegiances of the latest novel.
Compare the living Clans
These are broad story associations, not a rule that every member has the same temperament or abilities.
| Clan | Environment / identity | Reading context |
|---|---|---|
| ThunderClan | Woodland hunting and forest cover | Rusty's entry point in Into the Wild |
| RiverClan | Rivers, fishing and strong swimmers | Water shapes food and borders |
| WindClan | Open moorland | Open terrain and swift movement |
| ShadowClan | Pine woods and marshy ground | A proud, independent Clan |
| SkyClan | A separate history, exile and rebuilding | Later stories reveal its connection to the other Clans |
Why do some lists say four, five or six?
Four describes the living Clans encountered at the start of Into the Wild. Five includes SkyClan. An official directory may show six headings because it also lists StarClan, but that is not six equivalent living communities.
BloodClan, the Tribe of Rushing Water, loners and rogues are other groups or ways of life. Their names do not make them additional members of the five warrior-Clan system.
Which Clan should an OC join?
Choose the environment and responsibilities that suit the story, not just a personality stereotype. A shy ThunderClan cat or a friendly ShadowClan cat does not contradict an entire Clan's identity. For roleplay, use the server's available groups and rules.
To check a leader, use the allegiances in the specific book you are reading. An official profile can describe a historical role; it should not automatically overwrite a later novel.
Questions people ask
Is every ShadowClan cat evil?
No. Clan rivalries and individual villains do not make all members of a Clan morally identical.
Is StarClan all-knowing?
No. The official beginner guide explicitly explains that its cats have limited knowledge and can be uncertain.
Does the RPG include all five living Clans as player stories?
Its store describes four original Clan stories. Do not infer a SkyClan campaign just from SkyClan existing in the books.
