Evidence and limits

Official artwork, fan art, book covers and game screenshots are different kinds of reference. An illustration can guide a design without proving that its exact colours or proportions apply to every edition or adaptation.

Which design should I draw?

For a named cat, begin with the relevant book description and choose an identified visual reference. Johanna Tarkela's official article includes Firestar, Graystripe, Jayfeather, Squirrelflight, Scourge, Tigerstar and other characters, with notes about design choices.

For an OC, decide the silhouette, coat pattern and one distinctive feature before adding accessories. A fan interpretation is not automatically a canon appearance.

Share with clear attribution

Credit a reference artist and do not remove their signature or present someone else's image as your own. Read a specific challenge's current submission rules before entering; a rule for one challenge is not a blanket licence for all official or fan artwork.

Questions people ask

Can I download other artists' fan art here?

No. This guide links to sources rather than republishing unlicensed galleries.

Is every fan design canon?

No. Fan designs are interpretations; even official art can reflect the needs of one edition or adaptation.
