Is Clans of the Forest worth buying?

One day after the 23 October launch, verdicts differ: ScreenRant is positive about the RPG basics, while GamingTrend is sharply critical of its early Switch 2 copy. Player ratings are not critic scores.

Evidence and limits

This is a review roundup, not a scored review from our own playtime. On 24 October 2026 the Steam product page, PlayStation product, both original reviews and Metacritic itself were re-read. The Steam appreviews endpoint redirected to the store homepage in this check, so the Steam figures below come from the product page, not a fabricated API result.

Dated scores, with the source kept separate

Steam displayed Mixed with 45% of 647 reviews positive. PlayStation displayed 4.52/5 from 65 ratings, pooled across editions. Those are two different audiences and methodologies, not a platform performance comparison.

What the original reviewers actually disagree about

ScreenRant praises approachable turn-based combat and customization, while identifying visual limitations. GamingTrend also finds value in combat and character creation but criticizes campaign repetition, bugs and writing quality. Its review identifies an early Switch 2 review copy, so do not silently generalize those observations to every current platform build.

These are attributed reviewer observations, not issues reproduced by this site. If you want a turn-based single-player game with an original cat, the advertised design fits. If you want live shared roleplay, the separate free WCUE experience is a closer match. Check recent reviews for your exact platform/build before spending.

What this roundup cannot tell you

No comparative frame-rate tests, crash-rate measurements, full completion time or post-patch retest were performed here. OpenCritic's fetched search page did not expose a verifiable result, so its aggregate remains unverified rather than declared nonexistent. A null Steam metacritic field is not evidence about OpenCritic.
